Sneakersnstuff Nike Exhibition

This is the best cheeseburger I’ve ever seen. It is part of Swedish shop Sneakersnstuff’s exhibition on Nike Sportswear. The Air Max 90 burger, by Olle Hemmendorff, is one of many artist interpretations of Nike shoes and apparel. The exhibition is open for two months, and features the work of of other scandanavian artists Hanna Weislander and Jonas Weihager. I wonder if the paint cracks and the midsole yellows on this model of the 90.

Craigslist - Best Ofs

I was surfing the internet pretty hard today, and thanks to a blog called oneplusinfinity, I’ve discovered one of my new favourite things: The Craigslist Best Of’s. It is a collection of the best craigslist ads from across the world, all of which are pretty hilarious. If I worked in an office I have a feeling they would occupy a solid amount of my time. Of the ones I did read, this one that Mr. 1 + ∞ posted originally is probably my favourite as well. Some are rated R so be warned.

Tour de France

Le Tour, the most insane race in the world, started up today. To me, pretty much every type of racing is pretty boring, with the tour being the one exception. The guys are freak athletes, the fans are nuts and the crashes are the best. Horrible I know, but it’s true. Hopefully there aren’t any nut jobs like the one in Mexico. Anyways, if you like biking you should at least watch a couple legs, the individual TT’s are the best.

Gunning For That #1 Spot

The NBA Draft went down last night, I’m kind of sad the Sonics didn’t trade up to get OJ but I’m happy with Westbrook. Anyways, it reminded me of this trailer I’d seen earlier this month; Gunning for that #1 Spot. It’s about the legendary Rucker Park and it’s directed by MCA aka Adam Yauch, one third of the Beastie Boys. As it turns out it hits select theatres tonight! I can’t wait till it comes north of the border, scheme scheme plot plot…

p.s. I’ve decided that Vimeo>youtube

Carlsberg dream house.

I’m going to continue on with the video dumping trend that I’ve created on this blog… I love soccer and the European Cup. This is easily the best commercial I’ve seen watching it, although the one on TV isn’t the Irish version like this one.

Kanye on: Ice T vs Soulja boy

Kanye weighed in with his opinion (or at least I think its his) on this ‘beef’ between the 50 yr old Ice T and the 17 yr old Soulja boy. While I think webcam arguments are probably the worst thing to ever happen to the world, Kanye actually managed to come up with something semi insightful:

“He came from the hood, made his own beats, made up a new saying, new sound and a new dance with one song.  He had all of America rapping this summer.  If that ain’t Hip Hop then what is?  A bunch of wannabe keep it real rappers that ain’t even relevant, recycling samples trying to act like it’s 96 again and all they do is hate on new shit?….

Keep this shit fresh and original…. ain’t no fuckin’ rules to this shit and that’s what real hip hop is to me.”

oh and if you want to laugh pretty hard, watch my favourite soulja boy video.

Lakai WTWTA

Its been a long time since I last wore a pair of Lakai’s, they were my staple shoe back in the day. Since then I’ve pretty much grown out of skate shoes. Children’s literature on the other hand, ish dont think so. As an homage to my childhood (and my mom) I have to post these. Where The Wild Things Are is probably my all time favourite kids book and now it’s been immortalized on shoes, awesome. I can’t wait for the “Love you Forever” and “Mortimer” Robert Munsch pack…

Amy Stein

We have been posting a lot about photography lately and I just wanted to keep it moving in that direction. Amy Stein is a photographer from Washington D.C. now based out of New York. She is also a photography teacher at Parsons The New School for Design and the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Her work has been getting lots of love and publicity lately (One of her photos from the Domesticated series was just featured in this months Juxtapoz Photography issue). She has actually been named one of the top fifteen emerging photographers in the world by American Photo Magazine. The Domesticated series (which I love) was the winner of the Saatchi gallery/Guardian Prize in 2006. Her work is very well put together with interesting content and ideas behind it. Read more

Muddguts

Muddguts is a little photo gallery that I managed to stumble upon. It is put together by Orfn of the US crew based out of S.F.  It consists of a bunch of different photographers adding their work to the gallery. It has a real cut and paste almost vintage feel to it. The content is super weird and basically a look into the mind of a crazy graffiti artist or person. I can relate in so many ways, that is why I think I like it so much. Some of the work is for sale so buy it and support these guys Because they need more Pabst Blue Ribbon, spray paint and film (actually I don’t think that they pay for anything). Anyways check it out because if you can’t appreciate it you will at least get a laugh at something, trust me. Read more

Big Tiny Smalls is the illest…

The other night my friend Josh a.k.a. Big Tiny Smalls was having a solo photography show. It was being housed at Whitebird in Victoria, and it actually turned out to be a great venue. In conjunction with the show he had also put together a book of some of his work from the past year or so and it was in a nice limited run of 100. I managed to get my hands on one and am happy for that as it is a good look. The work was great and so was the turn out and crowd so I think he was a winner. It’s nice to see because Josh has been a major facet in the community and scene in Victoria for a while now, and has lent his hand or eye to the h(y)r and the 4hoursemen crews so I was stoked to see some of his other work. He is moving to Halifax for a while and I just want to wish him a good move and all the best. As for the East Coast, watch out Big Tiny Smalls is probably rolling to a seedy joint near you to grab a photo of you in all your worst. Read more

sports

Sport is my favourite thing in the world. And right now, is the best time of the year to be a sports fan: Hockey playoffs are getting good, basketball playoffs are starting, the baseball season is starting up and so is the MLS plus all the soccer leagues/tournaments in Europe are wrapping up. It can be hard to keep track of it all but here’s whats going down.

-Isiah finally got fired. its about time.

- I still hate the Spurs, Tim Duncan especially. He’s shooting 3’s in OT now? seriously? Sort him out please Shaq.

-George Karl is the best coach in the NBA. Too bad the Lakers are going to run the table on the NBA Playoffs (Odom and Gasol’s combined lines from game 1: 53pts 30reb 14ast 3blk 2stl)

-If the Penguins don’t win the Stanley Cup this year, they’ll win the next 3.

-Howard Schultz needs to get in touch with Mike Danton to try and off Clay Bennett.

- George St Pierre dominated Matt Serra at the biggest UFC event ever in Montreal. I’ve never seen this guy ‘play’ any other sports, but if he’s got any kind of hand eye coordination I might argue that he’s the best athlete out there, in any sport…

-Dave Nonis might have a new golfing partner in JP Ricciardi pretty soon. Releasing Frank Thomas 16 games into the season while he’s still got $8 million left on his contract. Awesome. Hey JP, I’ll hit .167 for only $100,000. gimme a call.

-I dont care what anyone says, Sean Avery is the raddest player in the NHL

The Hunt for Red Gingham

I’m fiending for this pattern, I need it in red, the bigger, the better, the more pockets, pocket flaps and applets the better. I have one potential lead on a shirt now, so all hope isn’t gone. I am also in search of a khaki bucket hat, and pants with a sinch in the bottom. Anybody?
