Restaurant Report: Amuse

I know a lot of the readers don’t spend much time on Vancouver Island, but there are enough of you in and around BC, Canada, to let you know about this restaurant. Amuse was opened just off the shore of Shawnigan Lake, by Brad Boisvert and his partner Leah Bellerive. It is a French Bistro-style restaurant located in a modest house. They really focus on using seasonal veggies, fresh meats, and cheeses from local farmers, so it may be the freshest menu around as well. Between the small homey space and the great service, you might get to hear Brad tell you about one of his recent camp outs for asparagus. It is a great dinning experience. Unfortunately my photos didn’t turn out so great, but I would recommend Amuse as probably the best restaurant on the Island. If you’re over here, it’s a must. The word has gotten out so call for reservations on weekends. Read more

Finally…

It’s always been a problem, it’s not just yogurt, why did this take so long and where can I get it? Especially those small containers when like 25% of the gurt is trapped in the corners and you can’t get it. Now no yogurt will survive.

For Steph: Cupcake Social 2.0

I had to post this for Steph, our web designer. If you haven’t checked out her own blog, or had a chance to talk to her, she likes cupcakes. So when I saw this post on PSFK I definitely thought of her. Obviously there must be something about ‘techies’ and cupcakes because she apparently isn’t the only one if there is an event actually going down in NYC for those two specific interests. I wonder if I could find a party for fans of editors notes in magazines and slim cut shirts? If it’s going down, let me know.

Hiroshi Can Actually Do It All

Maybe he isn’t the best singer ever, but what can this man not do? He designs and helps conceive the best things ever, baggage lines, magazine, website, clothing line, clothing line, clothing line, DJ, pop artist, snowboard, photographer…I think that somehow Hiroshi Fujiwara actually has a time machine or something that allows him to have 50 hour days. That is the only explanation for him to do as much great work as he does.

Edible Planet

It seems like we are always searching for an ill lunch spot. In Gastown, Vancouver, The Social is definitely the sandwich place, but you can’t eat it everyday. I recently found out about Edible Planet and decided to check it out with Matina. We were lucky to beat the line in the small location on the 400 block of Railway. It was full of fresh greens, organic chicken breasts, pizzas, veggie burgers, and Thai chicken curry. They also have some yam fries to write home about, although I didn’t get to sample them. The value was good for about $10 a plate, I left feeling full and healthy. It was super fresh, and definitely would make the short trek out again soon. Read more
