Space Invader: Binary Codes Street Art

Space Invader as you may know him, is a street artist out of France, he creates his space invader characters as well as other video game characters in his signature style, constructed of tiles made to look like pixels. His street work can be seen in over 40 different countries and he has now started “Invading” the gallery scene with his indoor works. In this video he explains his new binary code street art. He is stepping up the street art game by incorporating his lo-tech ceramic tile work with high-tech binary code technology. He creates binary codes in black and white ceramic tiles and with an i-phone application called i-matrix (or BeeTag) you can translate the hidden messages in his new works. Check the video for the full break down.

Flight Club Drawings

Flight Club recently tweaked the welcome page on their website. Instead of just the old boring FC logo, there’s now a collection of amazing illustrations each time the page loads. It’s a series of animal adaptations of famous basketball players. Shown is Kobe in Viper form. Hit the link for LeBron the Lion, Barkley the Rhino, MJ the Panther, Rodman the Hyena and the ironic KG Timberwolf. Big ups to whoever drew them, but where’s the Manute Bol praying mantis? or the Dan Majerle pony? Read more

Ante Up Earnie!

This is THE best basketball warm up song. Now it’s THE best music video by Burt and Earnie.

Hipsters in Space

CurrentTv killed it with this one, Hipsters in Space. This video is about a group of hipsters lead by Captain Art school and their quest for the coolest most untapped scene, space. The whole thing is so hilariously on point especially the excessive blogging and the robot with the “sniffles”. This wouldn’t have been complete without a Steve Aoki appearance, solidifying him as hipster of the year. I cant decide what is better this or the Hipster Olympics, you be the judge.

Kaws Interview about I-D Magazine

Here is a cool interview with Kaws about the new issue of I-D magazine that he contributed to. He talks about how the issue came together and the work that he did for it. It is always neat to see how an artist approaches their work and where they take inspiration from, especially with someone like Kaws.

Arkitip Magazine No. 0046

I received my Arkitip in the mail the other day. Issue No. 0046 have 3 different covers from Kevin Lyons, Michael Lyon, and Ben Dury. I went with the Kevin Lyons. It came with a Beams x Arkitip T shirt as well which definitely was a nice selling feature for me. It comes as a heat transfer that I have to press on myself, only problem is an iron is apparently not hot enough. I’m not sure if I can do this myself as I’m not an experianced T shirt printer. Anybody got some suggestions or do I need to take it somewhere? The magazine has some great work as usual, with some nice clean layouts, and great photography. Definitely worth the purchase. Thanks for making dope stuff Arkitip.

Fall on me

This installation done by Mr. Stipe at the Rogan vs. Stipe party looks great. For some reason I find myself really liking piles of boxs and the things people do with them, it looks cool. I saw an office that somebody had set up only using fedEx boxes and it was rad. This cascading box pile filters down, through, and out of the window onto the sidewalk. It looks cool, thats it. Liz Hickok: Jell-O Artist

We all know everyone loves Jell-O, how couldn’t you? But making art out of it just takes this love to a whole new level. San Francisco based artist Liz Hickok is a Jell-O artist, and for her latest project she is making a replica model of San Franisco’s Mission District. Current_ has a video on the artist, check it out here

Medicom x UNDFTD x Converse

Every sneaker store needs this bearbrick in the window… Wear a sock kid, No raw dogs!

Take a Seat

I’ve been getting more interested in some of the furniture design lately as I am trying to learn a tiny bit before an article I’m working on. I came across this chair today and I like it. Maybe it has to do with the photograph and the texture of the wood floor beneath as well, but I think this would make a pretty solid patio chair.

Justice - Stress Video

This video is savage. I don’t know how else to describe it. I guess it’s well done? I was hoping for some ill dancing when I saw all of the low class dudes in leather Justice jackets - I guess that went a different direction with this one. Some parts are funny, some parts are a little disturbing. They couldn’t even let the sound man and camera guy go in the end? Thats kind of harsh…

Hiroshi Can Actually Do It All

Maybe he isn’t the best singer ever, but what can this man not do? He designs and helps conceive the best things ever, baggage lines, magazine, website, clothing line, clothing line, clothing line, DJ, pop artist, snowboard, photographer…I think that somehow Hiroshi Fujiwara actually has a time machine or something that allows him to have 50 hour days. That is the only explanation for him to do as much great work as he does.

Barry McGee on VBS.TV

Vice’s VBS.TV has done a two part feature on one of my favorite graffiti artists turned fine artist Barry McGee a.k.a. Twist. In case you don’t already know his history he is one of the best graffiti artists hailing from San Francisco, He has been at it since the 80’s and has mastered all avenues of graffiti from characters, pieces, throw-ups, and tags. His gallery work is always interesting and incorporates canvas, video, and installation work that includes full trucks and cars being pulled into the gallery itself to be painted. He really brings the raw urban feel to the gallery. I always like VBS features but this one is cool as Barry has gone back after and animated the interview to really bring it together. Read more
