Surface 2 Air Bag Collection
I’ve definitely mentioned the Surface 2 Air bags before but I thought I would take the time to put together a look at all of my favorites from the fall collection. The incredible soft leather looks amazing on the shelf and even better with some wear. They did a perfect job with the subtle brand stamp on the leather which seems to fade away with wear as I’ve seen in pictures. The duffle bag, weekender and short hauler styles are nearly perfect, the only thing I might change is increasing the size slightly. Surface 2 Air also did a great job with the colors using mostly black while only stepping out with a sort of olive tone and a navy. I don’t know if there is another soft good clothing line, let alone bag maker that has such a nice leather collection right now. While the prices aren’t cheap, they also aren’t outrageous. Going from around $350-600 they could bring you a few years of looking great and carrying convenience.
Chromeo
Chromeo, the synth-electro-rock-pop duo (or something. who makes that stuff up?) that everyone knows and likes (or at least should) is in the midst of doing some clothing design. They’re teaming up with french label Surface 2 Air for some collaborative pieces. A varsity jacket, western shirt, hoody and another jacket to be exact. While Dave 1 and P-Thugg have completely different styles, they both seem to be pretty well dressed guys, so it will be interesting to see how things turn out. Judging on the way the collection of leather jackets that S2A produced with Justice, the Chromeo collection should be something to look forward too. Their next album, which they’re starting to record in November, will hopefully be good as well. (via Billboard)
Surface 2 Air Belt
Belts aren’t usually too exciting, especially black leather belts. What can you even do to them? Put studs on? Okay there are probably a few reasonable modifications you can make, but the point is, there israrely a belt I actually think is really nice. I tried on this Surface 2 Air belt at Illustrated Example the other day. It’s fresh in with the Fall line, and is probably one of the nicest belts I’ve seen in awhile. It has a D ring sort of function but instead of 2 rings it uses a classic leather loop to hold the belt back in place. I also really like the black on black with the hard wear being a matte black. The other feature I’m really liking on belts in general and this one did it really nicely is having a leather piece go behind the actual buckle area. It makes it looks more complete and there are no visible holes. Made from a rather soft leather, the belt is pretty much the perfect thickness and width as well. I’m seriously considering going back to pick it up.
Surface 2 Air Fall Bags
Surface 2 Air have been putting out some of the nicest leather bags for men I’ve seen the past couple seasons. The spring range was definitely on point, and it looks like fall’s collection has only gotten better. The duffel ursine bag is my favorite. I would absolutely love to have that bag. Judging from the photos and last seasons pieces, the leather is nice, tough, and soft. The handles, size, and color are all pretty much how I’d design them. Every detail on these S2A bags are pretty much perfect. The stitching, the subtle branding, the worn looking zipper. The only thing that I don’t love and stops me from having one, is that they cost $566 US. That isn’t actually too bad of a price for the product you’re getting. Both bags are available at Tres Bien, which pretty much has an amazing fall stock right now.
Surface 2 Air Fall
Surface 2 Air have been doing some good things these days, their spring line is very solid, filled with nice denim, shirts, shoes, and accessories. It has been an easy transition to the North American market with their clean lines, modern details, and trademark necklaces. This fall will be no different. With a nice use of color, S2A looks like it will have some great winter jackets and another solid collection of button downs. It’s a line that doesn’t push too far ahead, and that’s probably why it does well in North America. It’s slim fitted cuts accompanied with fair prices make it a great option. Distribution is still fairly limited but you can find their current line at Illustrated Example and some fall pieces at Four Horsemen. My favorite pieces in the line are their leather bags, although the price point isn’t my favorite, the construction and quality of the leather is pretty much perfect. Via Selectism
Wallets I Like
Continuing on with our “Things I like,” I decided I would do wallets. A wallet is such an everyday piece, it needs to not only look good, but function as well. Nothing is worse than a big bulky wallet poking out of you pocket. Not to mention it is really bad for your back. So slim it down, and quality is key as you get alot of use out of a wallet. Starting off I decided I would show some love to Illustrated Example on their collaborative project with Anemergency on this beautiful white leather piece. For a very classic look I decided to go with the Tanner and Billykirk both pieces able to withstand day in and day out wear, and benefit aesthetically. Now to switch it up and bring some color I went with the Surface to air, either color blue, black or red. Last but not least, a little something extra with this Comme des Garcons piece with embossed lettering. Either way make sure you have some money left over to put in the thing, thats my problem. Surface 2 Air x Justice Update
I was pretty sure I would never come across the Surface 2 Air x Justice collaboration pieces in my time, only to find out Vancouver, and soon to be Toronto boutique, Jonathan + Olivia will be carrying the collection. The two leather jackets are so far out of my price range at a little over $1700, it makes me a bit sad. The denim is relatively more reasonable at $325. The whole collection will be released in the next couple weeks in the Vancouver location, and I’d imagine will be on the shelves for the opening of the Toronto edition, which is set to open in August. Jonathan + Olivia have built their clientèle over the past few years to gain a strong following of those who desire the nicer things in life. Their brand list is one of the most impressive I’ve seen, and I usually find at least a couple items I want when I drop by. They are also having a sale at the moment of up to 40% off some great pieces.
