Robert Geller Fall
While everybody is mixing up posts from spring and fall and designers are wrapping up next fall, we are still seeing some of the best items of the season arriving at some of the nicest boutiques. Judging from the Robert Geller pieces at Our Spot right now I should have included Dion in the Business of Buying feature. Every one of the pieces are really beautiful and something I’d love to wear. The neck ties are perfect, the Marcello glasses, nuff said, and the strap neck shirt and blazer are really nice. Of course Robert Geller’s collection includes more great pieces, and so does Our Spot’s stock, but these are definitely some of my favorites of the fall offering. Don’t let those Aussie prices scare you off either, the ties are only $135 us.
Selima Optique Eyewear
I received an email from a reader the other day who is in the market for some eye wear, since I am not much of a pro on the matter because I’ve never worn glasses, I had to dig a little. Fortunately the search didn’t have to go too far as Blackbird just received a nice selection of Selima Optique pieces. With two different models and multiple colors of each, there is a pretty nice selection. Selima Optique is a designer as well as a trained optician so I would imagine the glasses not only look good but function as needed. The large dark frames reminded me a little of the Robert Geller Marcellos which have been a hot item this fall. Since those are out of stock everywhere, I’d say these Selima Optiques for $288 are a good option. As noted, they are available at Blackbird.
In The Bag
Here’s a new series I’m going to try to keep up since I seemed to run out of the ‘Things I Like’ posts. It’s called ‘In the Bag.’ Basically I’ll pick a bag I like and fill it up with more stuff I like. After just doing this first installment I can already tell it’s going to be a love/hate piece. Finding all of this stuff makes me want it more. Something with beautifully photographed products on a white background just looks so nice. I suppose you might get that idea from the aesthetic of the website and magazine. Anyways, for the first round I found an amazing Porter Ruc Sack to fill up. I put in a (Malin+Goetz) candle in case you find yourself in a stinky situation, because of the fall weather I went with a knit ball cap from Jill Sander and a nice scarf by A.P.C. For a little reading, or more looking I needed to pick up the last issue of Honeyee Mag and of course to make sure you look like your reading that Japanese you’ll need some Robert Geller glasses. I didn’t feel like scouring for a glasses case so if you need to you can wrap them in the scarf.
Also if readers feel liking emailing in their ‘bag’ it would be cool to post a reader’s bag each week, since I know you guys have good taste too, or you wouldn’t be reading h(y)r. Send them to info@hyrcollective
Robert Geller Stand Collar
I’ve always had a thing against these ’stand collar’ shirts with the one button and no folding over collar. I don’t know what it is that just seemed to rub me the wrong way. Maybe I’d never seen anyone really make them look right, or maybe the right one hadn’t come across my eyes yet. However over the past couple months my desire for one of these odd shirts has been intensifying rapidly. I still hadn’t found one I liked until recently. Either the material was too thin or it fit poorly, or there were some other details that ruined the shirt. This fall however, Robert Geller has put together a nearly perfect version. I say nearly because I have not tried it on yet, so I’m not confident enough to award it such an honor. The cotton is perfectly weighted however, it apparently has a nice slim cut, has no bad details, and looks about as classic and timeless as a shirt can. To be honest since I saw it, I’ve been emailing around and checking with people I know if they have it in stock so I would not have to pay retail. At the moment the only place that I’ve seen it is at Gravity Pope’s Tailored Goods spot in Vancouver. I have no given up searching around but I will definitely be at least trying it on this weekend…
Robert Geller Boots
These Robert Geller boots just arrived over at Roden Gray the other day and they are amazing. Taking an obvious influence from Alden’s Indy model, the refined wooden sole complete with some of the nicest leather uppers I’ve seen make these incredible in black or brown. Mr. Geller had these made in Japan and after inspecting them fairly thoroughly I could tell the quality definitely showed through. Since I saw the brown model, they have been stuck in my brain. I didn’t dream about them last night, but I wish I did. They are so soft and pretty much the perfect color of brown complemented by the perfect color of the sole. Unfortunately these run you just a little bit under $800, which is well out of my range, but that isn’t going to stop me from thinking about them.
Robert Geller Backpack
This Robert Geller bag is a heater. Black leather, with straps, flaps, D rings, and a shoe lace-up feature, damn. It’s really cool looking. The price isn’t particularly cool at about $1100 US. But if you were able to pick up that bag and still had money left over to fill it with stuff, I’d say go ahead and do it. There are a lot of totes, messengers, shoulder bags, hand bags and the like being carried by men everywhere. The back pack is a tough piece to pull off with a lot of more grown up, tailored looks. I think if you owned this bag you’d have to find a way to make it work everyday. You’d have some serious stuff carrying to do with this bag to get that cost per wear/use down enough to justify it. Available this fall at Blackbird.
Robert Geller Fall @ Nomad
To be honest I haven’t been as blown away by Robert Geller’s recent collection as a lot of people I’ve heard from. That is not at all because I think it’s bad, it just hasn’t been my particular style. That is until I saw the pieces that Nomad just received. I NEED these Maharadja pants, first off, assuming they fit half decent. The outerwear is definitely a stand out. The toggle parka with the fish tails and the toggle bomber are also retarded. Wait, did I mention the boots yet? Damn. Why have I not seen these pieces before. I was just seeing jewlery and oddly shaped and see through sweaters. Once again, I’m not saying those are bad, just not for me to wear. These Maharadja pants and the boots definitely are. I’m happy the pants aren’t too outlandishly pricey but some saving must commence immediately.
Robert Geller Jewelry

Wings + Horns has been blowing up on the blogosphere today thanks to Roden Gray’s big shipment of the Fall line. What’s unfortunate though, is that the fresh batch of Robert Geller jewelry at the Vancouver store is going largely unnoticed. Each piece they received seems like a pretty major hitter to me. I have a hard time finding jewelry I like that is subtle and nice and doesn’t get called too “bling” which gets tiresome. Simple to the average eye, but impressive detailing and superior quality upon closer inspection. I’m a fan, although I think the price point will be a bit of a bummer for me when I find out. Coming Soon
Coming Soon has been receiving a fair bit of press the past month or so as the first pieces from Yoji Yamamoto’s new line have been arriving in North America. Odin had a handful of really nice pieces including a really nice white shall sweater that I really liked. Now we see Blackbird getting their first pieces in the mail. The worn, casual blazer looks good on and off as the comfortable lines and cut makes it look pretty easy to wear. Blazers are a fairly odd item for me because they have been deaded in the streets for a few years now. Nobody I know would really touch them, but as menswear for the younger generations matures, blazers seem to be coming back into the picture. I found myself liking a few light weight, casual, chino blazers lately, and pieces like this from Coming Soon are pulling my interest further. The line has been looking good overall and seems to compliment several pieces from the ever-popular Robert Geller right now.
Robert Geller @ Roden Gray
Thanks to Raymond Chiu we have a glimpse of the first delivery of Robert Geller over at Roden Gray. The shop just picked up the line and with an interesting fall line on the way there should be some good stuff in stock. Robert Geller has been getting a lot of love these days on the blogs. As people’s tastes are rapidly maturing they are looking for that line that is right for them. Robert Geller isn’t really a line that is getting me too excited. Some pieces I definitely like a lot, but for the most part his aesthetic lately hasn’t been going in the same direction as myself. The price is also quite high so you really have to be a fan and commit to what you’re purchasing. I’d say the glasses are the best item in the first arrival at Roden Gray, but definitely look for more in the near future.
Robert Geller in Scoute
The new issue of Scoute released yesterday and it features a nice little interview with Robert Geller. The Robert Geller label is one that I’ve started to notice a bit more lately, but don’t really know anything about. I really like the personal insight the interview offers, it’s not just a regurgitated wikipedia entry. From his history as a designer, to his days with Cloak and the process of making his line, it’s an interesting feature in another good installment from Scoute.
