Nike Terminator QS

Nevermind the Our Legacy shirts (well don’t, but you know what I mean) these Terminators are what punched me in the metaphorical face over at Tres Bien. I’ve always kind of wanted a pair of Terminators but have always thought they were a bit too bulky for a sneaker. When morphed into a hiking boot with lace clasps rather than eyelets though, and they’re perfect. Black on the white sole is a nice color combo too: good for a snowball fight, the office christmas party, or the New Years semi-formal.

Our Legacy “Punch you in ya face” Drop

Just when I thought there was a lot of stuff I wanted to buy right now, Our Legacy drops one of their biggest collections from the fall season, grey and navy wool suits, beautiful slacks, a woven belt and a huge variety of button downs including some Tres Bien exclusives. I wanted to blog about this earlier but I had to make sure I could get a hold of our friends in Sweden and get a couple pieces saved for me before they were gone. Sorry for being a bit selfish, but now you know. Don’t forget about the 25% VAT for non Europeans, something serious that makes all of the prices tres bien. Check out the Our Legacy full fall collection. Feel free to let them know you came from h(y)r too.

Our Legacy Red Top

I’ve been on about red toques for the last month or two. There was the Head Porter one which was really nice but not easily attainable, and I haven’t really put in any hours scouring work wear spots or anywhere else. I have had my eyes open and until today I haven’t really found what I want. I knew Our Legacy had one in their fall collection but now it’s available at Tres Bien. Made from cashmere and retailing for $80 isn’t a bad detail. The subtle cable pattern suits the piece and my head really well. I’ve on the verge of ordering the red top right now, but if I’m going to order one item from all the way over in Sweden, I might as well get something else right?

Our Legacy SS09 Lookbook

While Our Legacy has now landed in North America and expanded their collection quite a bit this fall, it’s their spring/summer ‘09 collection that I’m really excited about. When I saw it in New York last summer I wanted to try on every piece. The ones I did fit well and felt great. They made pretty much everything I want right now, light denim, chinos, great button downs, a denim shirt, really nice 3/4 length coats and a great selection of accessories. They also did a really nice job with the spring look book, although it still doesn’t do the collection justice. They have actually been handing out the photos in an envelope in some sort of glossy 4×6 format. I think it’s called film or something. The shots are beautiful and the spring collection is definitely something I am really looking forward to in a few months. Jockum and Christopher are keeping busy expanding every season and now with their shop-in-shop, pretty much every piece is available worldwide, however I’m excited for Our Legacy to make its debut north of the border this spring as well.

Chinos

As far as I know, they are hard to come by. Sure there go to the Gap and they have 20 different pairs, unfortunately I they only have one pair that isn’t as wide as my shoe at the cuff. There must be a magic pair out there somewhere. I’m not familiar with any by J. Crew and some of the other American brands like Gant, but I can’t image that are pioneering the perfect slim chino. Probably the best options I’ve seen are the slim chino by BDG, Urban Outfitters in-house line. Although I don’t like UO, they do an incredible job and their chinos actually feel and look pretty decent, however the fit is still a bit off. The other good option I’ve seen and not been able to try on are the Our Legacy ‘George chino‘ which they now have in a slimmer cut. The pants look great, and come in some good colors, so I would be quite interested in getting my legs in a pair. Kyle from Dejour has a pair from the spring collection and was quite happy with the quality, so it comes down to the fit now. If anybody else has found a good pair, feel free to let me know. I’m starting to think that chinos were just made to be a be more loose fitting and I’ll have to deal with that.

*Update: I was thinking about chinos during morning class and had to jet over to UO to try again. They have a new chino cut this fall and it looks worse, plus they added external branding. However I found a pair of the spring ones, sized down, and got an actually great pair of chinos for $29.

A.P.C. Saharienne D’Hiver Coat

This is a really dope jacket I think. There have been a lot of good ones this fall by Raf Simons, A.P.C., Our Legacy, Ralph Lauren, Engineered Garments, Nom de Guerre, all that I would gladly wear, but this A.P.C. coat might be my favorite I’ve come across. If you can’t tell from my obsession with Nom de Guerre, bags, and boots, I have a thing for military inspired garments. A big thing, that takes over my brain and I can’t think about anything other than clothes. It’s a bit scary sometimes, but it allows me to keep up the blog at least. Anyways, this coat is great. The pockets, color, buttons, collar, and then topped off with a really simple belt make this a stand out. One thing A.P.C. does so well is not take things too far. This is almost a big extreme for them even, and I definitely respect that about the line. A lot of designers would have tried to do too much but by using restraint and an obvious influence of urban fashion military ranks, the result is a jacket I might NEED to buy.

Our Legacy Interview

Fashion Sweden - Our Legacy

Here’s a great little interview with Our Legacy from a little while back. I hadn’t seen it before, but it lets you get a good feel of Jockum and Chistopher’s background, how they came together (again) and their vision of their clothing line. Jockum describes it as being ‘naturally well dressed’ and I feel like that is a great description on the collection. The fall line is now available extensively at Tres Bien and state side at Blackbird. Also if you feel like digging back into our archives, in Issue 3, I had a chance to catch up with Our Legacy to talk about the fall line.

Our Legacy Leather Duffel

Our Legacy has been growing their line just as fast as they’ve raised to acclaim in North America. This fall they added the Gram collaboration, ties, new shirt styles, and now a leather duffel. The bag is just as class as a leather duffel bag could be. Nice shape, good size, it appears the body of the bag is a sort of suede leather and the handles and piping is in a more stiff, cow hid-like leather. I love the rolled leather handles. I could use a bag like this. For all the posts on bags I write, and how much I like them, I really need to own more. I carry my tote bag pretty much 98% of the time, but I need something a bit bigger for sweaters, camera, and more if I please. If only I had the $400+ to drop on a bag, the options would be vast, and this Our Legacy piece would be near the top. Available now at Tres Bien.

(More) Denim Shirts

I recently posted about denim shirts, now I’m doing it again since I noticed a couple nice ones coming up for spring. The thing with these pieces is that there is no raw denim in sight. Our Legacy and Kistune, along with Wood Wood for this fall, all have light colored, somewhat faded denim shirts. I don’t know if a lot of other guys aren’t wearing raw denim as much these days, but I know myself and O.P. are feeling the washed out look as I had a pair of jeans out on my patio for a few weeks and he currently still has some on the roof of his building getting ready for spring. Anyways, I like that the idea has been translating into some shirts lately. Since actually wearing a denim shirt into a faded state would probably take the greater portion of a decade it’s good to see pre-faded, tasteful washes becoming available on the market, especially with a shirt that will fit well. I really like the Our Legacy version we saw at Capsule, they are also doing a faded denim pant for the spring which looked quite good.

Our Legacy Fall Sneaker

Our Legacy’s new fall line has a little surprise we didn’t know about, a canvas and rubber fall sneaker. The shoe is designed to withstand the fall elements, using the same canvas materials as Barbour’s well made outerwear. The sturdy rubber sole is also made of a high quality piece in order to keep the water out of them, and your feet in them. I really like the two color choices for the footwear. The dark khaki and navy blue are perfect for the fall, as you can see in the Fall Essentials piece in our new issue. The shoes bare a slight resemblance to some footwear by Gram however, I find the shapes, details, and colors of the Our Legacy model more appealing. As Our Legacy continues to grow their line and we should see more exciting additions in the spring.

Flannels I Like

Fall means flannel, you need a couple in your closet for those cool days to rock with a beanie or toque. It’s been a minute since I did a “____ I Like” post but I’m back with some good flannels. To kick it off, probably my favorite is the Original Fake flannel. They did a good job bringing in two extra pockets and making it look good. Combine that with a nice pattern and good colors and you have yourself a good flannel. Visvim also put out a great series of Folk flannels, superior materials and comfort leave you looking and feeling great. One more Japanese line made it into the mentionables, Deluxe. I also had to go with one of Supreme’s new flannels as they consistently put out great pieces for good prices. They are well made and fit quite well. To round it up I went with a slightly lighter piece, Our Legacy’s 1940’s button down. It has a button down collar which I like, a nice pattern, and it’s by Our Legacy, what more do you want? Pieces are available at Haven, Union, Bridge, Supreme, and Tres Bien.

Our Legacy Website Update

Our Legacy has now updated their web presence quite substantially with a fair bit of content, information on their fall line, as well as some of their processes, and their illustrated work. The website is meant to look a bit like an office and the way files are stored on older computers. I actually quite liked their previous layout, but the new site definitely offers a lot more content for fans of the line to go through which is nice, and something most designers don’t do. They also hinted at their S/S 09 line which looks amazing. I’m really excited about it, even though they just began releasing their fall line, it seems like the S/S line is another step ahead for the Swedish fellows. It will also mark a strong entrance into the North American market which will be good to see.

Our Legacy A/W

The much talked/blogged about and more anticipated Our Legacy line has dropped it’s first delivery on Tres Bien’s online store. The first items are a series of button downs including new cuts, new materials, and a couple new patterns. There is some light stripped patterns, linens, and a soft version of the classic club collar. Along with this release, there are some nice chinos, and knitted sweaters. Our Legacy is back again with another great shawl sweater, although it doesn’t have elbow patches like last season. The relaxed ‘Chino George’ comes in three nice colors and appears to have a very wearable fit. I’ve noticed the prices on the fall items are quite reasonable as well. Button downs are running $170-230 US, knits are about $170-205, and the chinos come in just over $200. The prices are just under some of the competing brands like Band of Outsiders and Rag + Bone, although that is on their home soil, we haven’t yet seen the price tag including shipping.

Red Tops

There have been a lot of navys, deep reds, olives, and browns in the fall lines this season. I like it, those are all great colors, however sometimes you need to set off the muted tones with a bit of color. I’m really liking the look of a bright red beanie, toque, hat, cap - whatever your vice. The bright red on top of the outfit is a great balance for me. It’s also easy to take off and throw in your bag if you have to go under the radar. This shot is from Our Legacy’s fall look book. Their line should be showing up at Blackbird in the near future, hopefully including their red toque. There are however a lot of options to inject color into your head wear. I’d say this is a good place for a vintage find or even something from your local work wear outlet. Keep it simple, keep it one color, keep it on or take it off.

Capsule TV: Our Legacy

I just came across this video from Capsule and now you are. Cator Sparks, freelance writer, interviews our friend Jockum from Our Legacy and hits him with some good questions about his shorts and what’s under them. Apparently Jockum is going to show him later, classic Jockum if you ask me. For the rest of you in the unknown, there’s an educational tidbit, Stockholm is in Sweden. Capsule was definitely a good time thanks to BPMW. I’m looking forward to next year’s event and meeting up with the Our Legacy fellows to catch up after their North American infiltration. Check the video here.
