Livestock x DVS Rico
I definitely didn’t think that I’d be liking or wanting any DVS shoes anytime soon, or ever for that matter. Then I saw these Rico’s designed by Livestock. A far cry from a typical skate shoe from DVS the Rico has an era-esque silhouette that’s a little more grown up. And the black waxed cotton makes for a pretty good looking (cheap I’m guessing) shoe prime for everyday wear in the fall. There’s also a white semi patent version, but it’s not as dope in my humble opinion.
Liveblock Party ‘08
Livestock has been throwing some pretty serious block parties the past couple years. They block off all of Abbott St. in Gastown, where the original Livestock resides, and get quite live for the day. With a notable list of Vancouver’s top record spinners, sponsors, give-aways, and hopefully some good weather, it’s definitely going to be a good time. The event was bigger than ever last year, but this one is promising to top it again. September 14, 1-7pm. Abbott St. There’s going to be a dance contest, probably some kind of skate contest, BBQ, beers, and probably me.
Hypebeast - Canadian Love
More Canadian talent showcased for you, Hypebeast just put out their latest edition of ‘Essentials’ featuring western Canada’s biggest players in retail. Haven, Livestock, Foosh, and Roden Gray are represented by their owners/buyers/creative directors give a nice simple run down of what’s needed in their everyday lives. Unfortunately they managed to fulfill a Canadian stereotype of liking Tim Hortons. Although Tim’s is not bad early in the morning on the way to a ski hill, as much as I like to deny it, it’s very Canadian. Once again, I like to see these pieces showing a more personal side of people who are the face of fashion/retail in Canada. Hypebeast is doing a good job in diversifying their content with some interesting pieces.
