In The Bag
Here’s a new series I’m going to try to keep up since I seemed to run out of the ‘Things I Like’ posts. It’s called ‘In the Bag.’ Basically I’ll pick a bag I like and fill it up with more stuff I like. After just doing this first installment I can already tell it’s going to be a love/hate piece. Finding all of this stuff makes me want it more. Something with beautifully photographed products on a white background just looks so nice. I suppose you might get that idea from the aesthetic of the website and magazine. Anyways, for the first round I found an amazing Porter Ruc Sack to fill up. I put in a (Malin+Goetz) candle in case you find yourself in a stinky situation, because of the fall weather I went with a knit ball cap from Jill Sander and a nice scarf by A.P.C. For a little reading, or more looking I needed to pick up the last issue of Honeyee Mag and of course to make sure you look like your reading that Japanese you’ll need some Robert Geller glasses. I didn’t feel like scouring for a glasses case so if you need to you can wrap them in the scarf.
Also if readers feel liking emailing in their ‘bag’ it would be cool to post a reader’s bag each week, since I know you guys have good taste too, or you wouldn’t be reading h(y)r. Send them to info@hyrcollective
PAM Trench
Perks and Mini have been developing a very respectable collection of outerwear over the past few seasons. To be honest it seems odd to me, although the line has an international following, it is from Australia. Last time I checked it never really got that cold that you need an intense Gore-tex outerwear line. I guess the market allows designers to be more adventurous while still catering to your clients, which is pretty cool. This trench coat by PAM is definitely the nicest piece I’ve seen from the line this fall. They do have some nice button downs and some good graphic tee’s but the outerwear is really carrying the line now. The trench comes in olive green and black, perfect color choices, and being picked up by Hnyee.store doesn’t hurt anybody.
Head Porter Work Shirt
I love work shirts, wool shirts, and denim shirts. There seem to be an abundance of them this fall but this one by Head Porter Plus is one of the best. Retailing for about $180 and being made in Japan is pretty solid. I have pretty much been looking for this exact shirt for a few months. I love the pocket detailing and tone of the lighter colored button down. This shirt has such a natural look it can’t help but be appealing. Head Porter Plus have since launched a nicely shot look book for their fall collection which is now up for our viewing pleasure on Honeyee. Does Honeyee have a physical store yet? Because they should with all of their products and in-house lines like HP and their magazines and books. Anyways these shirts are really nice, I’m thinking about trying to proxy one in the near future. There is also a cool knitted crew neck worth mentioning in the fall collection. Just Read more
A.P.C. Saharienne D’Hiver Coat
This is a really dope jacket I think. There have been a lot of good ones this fall by Raf Simons, A.P.C., Our Legacy, Ralph Lauren, Engineered Garments, Nom de Guerre, all that I would gladly wear, but this A.P.C. coat might be my favorite I’ve come across. If you can’t tell from my obsession with Nom de Guerre, bags, and boots, I have a thing for military inspired garments. A big thing, that takes over my brain and I can’t think about anything other than clothes. It’s a bit scary sometimes, but it allows me to keep up the blog at least. Anyways, this coat is great. The pockets, color, buttons, collar, and then topped off with a really simple belt make this a stand out. One thing A.P.C. does so well is not take things too far. This is almost a big extreme for them even, and I definitely respect that about the line. A lot of designers would have tried to do too much but by using restraint and an obvious influence of urban fashion military ranks, the result is a jacket I might NEED to buy.
Head Porter Duffel
Another great piece from the Head Porter camp and also available at Honeyee Store, is the new graph pattern duffel bags. For those of you who haven’t found a duffel bag, or just haven’t seen enough of them, this is no doubt another good option. While I send to be more drawn to leather and canvas, I can’t help but like the clean lines, simple construction, and of course that Porter tag stitched onto the outside. The contrasting yellow and red zippers are also nice touches to liven up the luggage. The bags actually resemble the windbreakers from Head Porter Plus’s spring line in terms of the patterns, colors, and possibly materials. I was a fan of the jackets, so it’s not too surprising that I’m also feeling the duffels.
Louis Vuitton ‘An Authentic Luxury’
Honeyee has just uploaded a three part feature on Louis Vuitton titled ‘An Authentic Luxury’. Great title. It seems to cover some of the pattern cutting, the old school travel luggage, and the new graphite line. It is a little hard to know what it’s actually about because it’s not in English. I don’t know why the genius’ over at Honeyee haven’t started printing their magazine in English and doing an English version of their online magazine. I for one would appreciate it. They do everything so well, it’s a shame we have to miss out on some of the good stuff they cover because of a silly little thing like language. Perhaps it’s their subtle way of trying to get me to learn Japanese, I’ll have to ask Hiroshi next time I run into him. Until then, it’s worth checking out the feature as the photos as beautiful as usual.
Shipley & Halmos Fall
Shipley & Halmos is another mens line that is doing some great things. We haven’t really had a chance to look at their fall line yet, but Honeyee gives us preview of what we can expect. The duo have been putting some very garments together for only a couple seasons since splitting from Trovata. I had a chance to view the S/S ‘09 line while we were in NYC and it looked really nice. They had a great denim shirt, beautiful jackets, and more than a couple nice button downs. This fall should definitely be something to look forward to for the relatively new line. This jacket and rugby shirt are a good start. I’ve actually been thinking of picking up a rugby shirt lately, so this might fit the bill. Shipley & Halmos is available at Roden Gray in Vancouver, so keep your eyes out for the first shipment.
Head Porter Plus Shirts
A few more Head Porter Plus items have dropped for fall, although they are fairly season-less looking pieces, they will definitely work right now. A white oxford, a striped button down with flap pockets, and the latest from the ongoing Fred Perry X Head Porter Plus Polo collaborations. They did utilize one of my colors of the season with the brown on the polo, as well I’ve been hunting for a couple good oxfords lately without much luck, believe it or not. Although the Head Porter Plus is extremely hard to come by in North America the prices are quite good, both of the button downs retail for about $135 US in Japan. The quality is really nice as well as the fit. I have a couple pieces which I wear regularly and can give a first hand recommendation. It’s just finding a Japanese proxy to order from Honeyee that is a hassle. You hear that Honeyee? Make an English version of the store and ship to North America please.
Hobo Bags
Hobo has released their fall bags on hnyee.store now and I’m definitely liking the look of their pieces. They feel like a mix between Porter and Filson. The shapes and branding definitely carry a similar aesthetic to Porter but the colors and materials are quite reminiscent of Filson’s classic hunting bags. Olive is one of my top colors for this fall so I love seeing the dark, worn, green used very tastefully and complimented by some nice brown leather. The prices are reasonable as well as they go from around $100 up to $350. One of the odd pieces of the collection I really like is the leather book cover. The sleeve is beautiful, I’ve often wanted to pick up a vintage leather book cover from one of those street vendors but I don’t really know what book I would put it on. They look dope though.
Alden Boots
I just came across these Alden boots on Honeyee and they are looking very good. I don’t know much about Alden’s products and my freetranslation.com translation didn’t work very clearly so I wasn’t able to decipher much information. I was able to figure out that I like the look of the dark brown boots. They look somewhat similar to some Redwing models, but definitely carry their own unique style. I really like the way the eyelets are set on the shoe, as well as the shape of the mid sole. These are pretty important characteristics of footwear and it seems Alden has nailed the aesthetic. The boots come in an all black color as well, including a black mid sole which gives the boot a much more mature, dressy look. Since I’m not one to dress up all that often, the brown model is much more appealing to me, although at $450 and only being available in Barneys Japan, there is a downside.
Porter “Merge” Collection
I know these got spotted the other day on Honeyee but they are too fresh not to mention here. I really like the simple style back pack that Porter has been producing with the boxy looking back section. Stussy Deluxe also has a really nice version in all black that you can see in our next issue. Porter’s Merge collection is pretty ideal for the summer time - bright, vibrant colors, lots of white, lots of good. The pack is already selling out on hnyee.store without much surprise. I definitely prefer the white bag to the dark green, although I would have a hard time rocking either on a daily basis. I know Porter doesn’t get into the head wear too much, but I could see a nice matching bucket accompanying the back pack to the beach on a sunny day.
