Weekend Steal: Club Monaco Suit
With Black Friday going down this weekend there were a lot of deals to be had, on pretty much everything, good and bad. I was back home at my parents house for the week visiting them and my girlfriend and had high hopes of spending no money at all. I almost made it. I went into Club Monaco with my girlfriend because she was getting her friend a present and I noticed there were some good items on sale, then I realized everything on sale, was another 30% off. Then I realize I could get a suit for $210. Then I got a suit for $230 after tax. Grey wool-cashmere blend, one button jacket, light material, fits well off the shelf, what more do you need? The light grey plaid pattern is pretty ideal and the price is obviously more than ideal. The only problem is the pants have a weird fit. They say they are straight leg but they really get loose and weird from the knee down. However a half decent tailor can make good of that, so now I am just debating how much I have them taken in, and how short I crop the pants. A suit from Thom Browne’s previous employer tailor like what he is currently making might be the closest I can get for now. Either way I got a nice looking suit for a great price.

Ryan, What’s up, We’re conducting a little experiment to see if your new suit holds up - http://tinyurl.com/5sjfbp — Let us know if you’re still happy with the suit after you get it tailored and wear it a few times. Cool?
Will keep you updated, haha thanks.
Thats a good call, I definitely check out Club Monaco suits everytime I find myself at the Mall. The nice thing about the suit is that (I believe) it has functional buttons on the sleeve, a detail usually reserved for higher quality suits. I imagine in the long term you will really notice the lesser quality, but who cares in five years if the suit holds up, at that price you can but another five times over. I find for myself, it is vey difficult to justify spending large cash on a suit if I don’t plan on wearing it; but also suits look best when worn in situations that do not call for wearing a suit: I would have a hard time justifying using my bike in a $1000 suit, but at that price you don’t need to baby it, but it will still look fresh. I just recently made a similar purchase. I purchased a wool suit of ebay, the price was too good, 100% wool grey herringbone with enough $ to tailor it to how I want. It nearly fits perfectly untailored. The only exception is the ankles, way too baggy. I also will have the sleeves shortened a 1/2 inch or so and am thinking of getting the sleeves tapered as well, but I dont want to go crazy. I definitely think that any younger person, that may be strapped for cash is best suited (pun intended) to go with a cheaper suit and tailor it to perfection. GQ/Sartorialist had a feature a year ago or so about cheap suits that were tailored up nicely. The point of this rant: Good call, I think you will be happy.
