You Know What I got this Summer
Some shirts, some boots, some boat shoes…But Hiroshi has manage to put together a full feature on Honeyee with the items he’s picked up. I really like these kind of features because you can get a more personal taste of what other people, often people you look up to, are feeling and wearing. Fujiwara’s pick ups are presented really nicely in another great Honeyee spread. Definitely a strong pressence of polo shirts from Fedi, Dior, Brooks Brothers, and Head Porter Plus/Fred Perry. He seems to be into his own pants coming out of the Fenom line, and of course his recently released Nike Tennis Classics. Probably my two favorite items would be the technical jackets from Visvim and Nike Sportswear. Obviously his own products are great, but it is really cool to see the mash up between high fashion and high end street wear and how subtle some of the differences are.
Cazal Vintage Collection 2008
Cazal sunglasses have been a mainstay in fashion, especially hip-hop fashion since the 70’s and 80’s. With there re introduction of a vintage collection, consisting of the 901, 904, 946 models, Cazal will definitely make a huge comeback. We have seen a little more action from Cazal lately with their Dita collaboration back in Feb on the 902 model. With retro and vintage styles being very popular right now especially in the sunglasses department, I think the timing is perfect for an official release from these original trend setters.

Sidney Lo Preview
For many fashion forum dwellers and denim enthusiasts Sidney Lo is a household name. He has been developing his photography skills and concepts into something special. Last year we saw his exhibit in New York base on the “What did you wear today” threads running in several forums. He took a photo everyday for a year showing his growth, his hairs, and the aging affect of the Flat Head denim. He has since been compiling a world wide composition on Super Future members and their portraits. The project is developing very well from the sounds of it, and we now see a couple preview shots leaked on Sidney’s blog.
Pointer
Pointer is a lesser known footwear brand hailing from the UK. “Inspired and informed by everything from art and music to skateboarding and breakfast,” they are another shoe company fusing the feel of a typical sneaker with a more refined and mature look. I really like the simple white Debaser model, and I love breakfast. It looks kind of like a blend of a Vans Era and a deck shoe. With a vulcanized sole, leather/canvas upper and the oft overlooked good quality laces, its the kind of shoe you can and probably would wear everyday. Its higher cousin the Taylor is also good. You can get them now at Reed Space.
Porter ‘Proof’ Brief case
This is the last piece of the June Porter releases, they have gotten down to business this month with some serious brief cases and work/travel bags. Most of these pieces have been designed with the modern professional in mind, and this case is no different. Once again we see the waxed cotton but by painting over the attached wax regularly, the waterproof property will be kept for long use. You can also enjoy the aging phenomena of the material by using it as much as possible. The Bridle leather is a nice luxury and used on the artistic round handles. The gold zipper is evident again which completes the piece with a statement look and quality.
Nic Fensom
Photography is an amazing thing. It can be so powerful, playful, strong, and say a couple thousand words. Sometimes it doesn’t have to say any words to convey a feeling or emotion. Sometimes shots of your friends or people just hanging out or skating are just as strong and really show the raw, real way things are. I recently came across Nic Fensom’s photography site, soyourstyle.com and really liked his style, so I guess the site is so my style? His shots capture really normal people, in normal places, and fairly normal times. With lighting, color use and crispy clean images Nic is able to grasp some great moments in time that look really nice. He’s based in Vancouver and NYC, working for Color Magazine, Nike, Mass Appeal, and i-D, he boasts a pretty nice client list as well.
Korb
I was just surfing the internet pretty hard and came across this music video for Mario Basanova’s I’ll Be Gone. I’ve never heard the song before and it is OK but video is wicked. It was made by Lithuanian graphic designer/animator Rimantas Lukavicius. After looking through his website Korb its pretty clear that he’s really good at what he does. He’s made a bunch of cool commercials and animations for different companies but its his short films that are especially good I think.
Wood Wood S/S ‘09
Capsule Paris is providing us with a nice look at what is to come. I can’t imagine how hard it is to be a clothing line that is constructing lines that will come out a year from now. I can only imagine the stress and relentless amount of work, especially for brands that are fairly trend influenced. It appears that Wood Wood is doing a pretty good job from the glimpse we can get from hypequest. I look forward to checking out the line myself in New York next month, then we can get some more detailed shots for you.
Porter ‘Tag’ Briefcase
Why do I like Porter so much you might ask? I don’t know, I just do. I love the aesthetic. This new ‘tag’ briefcase is another good example why I love the line. The use of cottons and leather make this work inspired bag beautiful. The leather along the sides and around the zipper, and on the handle looks as soft and durable as any. The black and brown options are equally as classic for sliding the laptop, magazine, moleskin, and spare shirt into. The ‘tag’ name is apparently given to this bag because it means ‘day/date’ in German, relating to it’s strict business use.
Creativity Top 50
Creativity Online put out their 2008 top 50 creatives not too long ago. This list includes some of today’s most innovative thinkers, online and otherwise. Advertisers, writers, designers fill the list compiling a lot of really nice work not surprisingly. Dan Wieden of Wieden+Kennedy, Mark Zuckerburg of Facebook, Radiohead, Paula Scher of Pentagram, and The Coen Brothers are among the 50 creative forces listed. There is a surprising number of young people on the list that are doing some really interesting projects. I hadn’t heard of most of the people but once you click through into their respective sites, it is quite impressive what is going on in the world.
Weekend Recomendation: Stussy Straw Hat
It’s sunny and it’s the weekend. It’s time for the Stussy straw fedora. I unfortunately told myself I can’t wear fedoras but you can. These hats landed at Four Horsemen, Commonwealth and a few other Stussy dealers around North America. Summer feels like it’s finally about to pop off, and it’s definitely time to get out and get some color, since I can’t seem to get a tan from my computer screen. Have a good weekend from h(y)r collective.
Penfield Spring 2009 Preview: Capsule show Paris
The Capsule Show in Paris is going on right now and with that comes previews of next years collections. Here is a preview of the Penfield collection from Spring 2009, Brought to you by Hypequest. The line is looking solid focusing on technical pieces designed for windy and rainy conditions. The line includes windbreakers, short sleeve button downs, and some nice blazer style jackets. I’m really liking the windbreakers as well as the button shirts, consisting of some original cuts and styles. Check the rest of the pics from the collection after the jump. Read more
Tanner Goods Satchel Bag
Tanner Goods has been getting lots of attention lately for their high quality leather goods. The new satchel bags for their summer collection are a great example why. They have given the original satchel bag a few subtle upgrades including a loop and strap closure system commonly used in military applications, and a removable inside insert with multiple pockets and compartments. They come in two different sizes, the landscape and portrait and three colors, black, brown and my favorite natural. Another very nice addition to the Tanner Goods collection. Also be on the lookout for a extensive feature on Tanner Goods in our next issue. Read more
