WIRED on Wale Interview
Wired magazine recently did an interview with Wale. Arguably the most internet hyped lyricist today. Although he has the material to back it up. His second full length mixtape dropped yesterday, A Mixtape About Nothing. Fortunately it’s about a lot, and it is definitely one of the best releases this year. The interview touched on a few aspects of Wale; his sneaker collection, his internet buzz, and his new mixtape. It’s a pretty decent little interview, so if you feel the need to learn a little more about Wale then head over to WIRED.

Nevermind by Adam Bryce
This is Adam Bryce’s clothing line. Don’t get it twisted! If you read his blog style press release you will have a pretty good understanding where the project is coming from. It is really interesting to read his comments on the influences and reasons for creating Nevermind. He has included a couple of today’s finest apparel oriented design artists, Eric Elms and Fergadelic, to help produce the first couple shirt designs. He makes it clear this is not a t shirt line. But more like a roaming base for ideas to become a reality. Anything goes. No orders, no line sheets; Adam has allowed Nevermind to be lead by creative forces beyond organizational concern. Maybe that is why it’s titled Nevermind, so if he’s not feeling a particular product, Nevermind. The first shipment has shown up at Haven.
Steve Powers in the NY Times
Graffiti artist turned legit artist Steve Powers a.k.a. Espo has been featured in the NY Times. The piece is about Mr. Powers and his Mural projects he has done over the past several months in Dublin and Belfast, Ireland. The murals were painted for his Fulbright grant, which was awarded to him to do the project. The idea was to create public artwork with the help of teenagers from troubled housing projects in Dublin and Belfast. It is nice to see large media corporations like the NY Times and CNN giving shine to people such as Steve Powers and Craig Costello of Krink for their work and contributions to the art world. Honeyee Blog Relaunch - 100Day Relay
Honeyee has probably one of the strongest blogrolls in the world promoting a higher intelligence of style. After a couple days of being off line, they just relaunched the section of their site. The project is called a 100 Day Relay - Everyone on the blogroll is suppsed to post everyday for 100 days I think. It should be filled with great content. Some of my favorites; Paul Mittleman, John Mayer, Hiroki Nakamura, Mike Martin, and Kaws are regularly posting updates on their projects, their stores, and other interesting bits and pieces going on around the world. You can usually snag sneak peaks at up coming designs and samples straight from the source, often accompanied with some of the influences and inspiration. It is also one of the nicest laid out blogrolls with some nice flash action letting you know who has posted recently.
HomeRoom S/S ‘08
These are some of the latest releases from HomeRoom, based out of San Francisco. They have an impressive range for S/S, including some nice track jackets, shirts, graphic tees, five panel hats and a few jewelry pieces. They have incorporated U.V. sensitive inks for their screenprints, adding something a little new to your print when you walk outside. These guys are always trying something new all while still keeping it classic with good color choices and nice cut and sew pieces. Read more
Shirts Vol. 1 - Red Gingham
As some of the readers know, I have been searching for the perfect red gingham shirt for a couple months. It has been a journey. I tried on about four, purchased one, then returned it the next day. I’ve seen vintage finds on my friends, but no luck. I decided to go with the red gingham shirt that helped spark my desire. From the Head Porter Plus line came a nice serious of spring shirts, one of them was THE red gingham shirt. Nice big pattern, a linen/cotton blend, however only available offshore. I had to give in and get somebody to buy it off the Honeyee store for me as soon as it releases. I had to act quickly, but my gut feeling was right. Although when I received the shirt in the mail, it had a fine silver thread sewn into the red gingham which I couldn’t see that in any photos anywhere, alas I had my prize. Now, I am actually glad it has that extra touch, and with a slight alteration, my quest is over. The red gingham is mine.
A.P.C. Shoes
Building a clothing line is difficult for a lot of reasons. Doing it well, all the way through from belts, hats, jackets, shirts, specializing in one of the most classic denim cuts of our time, and being able to put out an extremely strong footwear line is another level. A.P.C. is most known for their affordable denim that pretty much every human loves and recommends. Now their strong point may be shifting, at least in my eyes. The growth of their footwear range is nothing less than impressive. With the addition of the the tennis shoe and the moccasin to an already strong line of derbies, A.P.C.’s shoe selection is among my top choices as a line. They hit on several different styles, staying with their good quality, and keeping the prices relatively affordable. You can check out some pieces for yourself at Nomad.
Admiral & Fila - That’s right
Want some shoes that aren’t Nike, Adidas or Vans? Fiending for some Wings + Horns or Raf Simons footwear but can’t afford it? Well here’s a couple solutions for you from reasonably unlikely sources. First up is the Oxford Hi by Admiral. The UK sportswear brand is pretty much only known for soccer equipment. I don’t know if this is their first foray into casual footwear but I think they’ve done a good job. A nice slim silhouette with nice height and good colour choices for a deck boot; or at least that’s what I’m calling them. If I were to spend a significant time on a jetty or barge, I’d definitely be rocking these rather than the Rogues Gallery alternative which are 3 times the price. As for the other pair… Read more
Be True Chronicles AKA Dunk Collection
Nikes Be True Chronicles have featured the AKA Dunk Collection. This very limited series of Dunks were designed by Allen Benedikt one of the founding members of 12ozProphet and Also Known As. The shoes were done in seven different colors inspired by vintage colors of Wetlook brand spraypaint which was a classic for graffiti writers coming up in the 70’s and 80’s. They were also done in patent leather to give it a wet paint look and feel. With only 5 sets being produced and only one actually going up for sale these are some rare joints. Read more
Hokey Spokes
Biking has recently had a huge resurgence. Pretty much everyone is rolling a fixed gear, BMX or a ten speed. Making your ride stand out has become the norm too; mag wheels, anodized parts, deep V’s etc. Hokey Spokes takes it one step further and lets you make your wheels glow in the dark harder than Kanye. They’re programmable so you can display simple text or the patterns of your choice. Hokey Spokes are easily the best use of LEDs since LightBright (don’t pretend like you didn’t have one and love it). Corny as hell? Yes probably, but they definitely beat some of the other crap I’ve seen on spokes like baseball cards and tennis balls. Check the incredible and hilarious demo video, it has the best soundtrack I’ve ever heard.
NVSBL Tailors
NVSBL Tailors is the new brand by Matt George and designer, Willo Perron. Both come from Canada and each have strong backgrounds in the streetwear industry. The company makes high quality leather jackets focusing on a much broader market than just streetwear, they want their jackets to be worn by everybody. With an amazing looking first collection for Fall 08′, these guys really look to be on to something. The lookbook is also very nicely put together with photography from Dino Dinco.
